The flow measurement accuracy depends on the relationship of the profile-linear average velocity. But this relationship of the transition zone is not available at present. In this paper, the characteristics of transition flow with specific Re number in pipes are researched. The ε − k model and LES(Large Eddy Simulation) model are respectively used to calculate the flow field of the transition zone, and the experiment results show that the LES model is more effective than the ε − k model. The relationship of the profile-linear average velocity for the transition zone in pipes is obtained by the calculated results of the LES model and it is proved that there is a big error using the tradition relationship based on the turbulence flow to calculate the profile-linear average velocity relationship of the transition flow. The research results of this paper can improve the measurement accuracy of ultrasonic flowmeters and provide theoretical basis for the research on the whole transition flow.

Estimating discharge and velocity in natural channels and flood plains for inflexible vegetative cover is important. In such waterways, velocity profile can be divided into three zones: uniform zone which is close to bed with uniform velocity distribution, logarithmic zone which involves the main channel without vegetative cover and the middle zone (transition zone) that is affected by the mom...
متن کاملInvestigation of instable fluid velocity in pipes with internal nanofluid flow based on Navier-Stokes equations
In this article, the instable fluid velocity in the pipes with internal nanofluid is studied. The fluid is mixed by SiO2, AL2O3, CuO and TiO2 nanoparticles in which the equivalent characteristic of nanofluid is calculated by rule of mixture. The force induced by the nanofluid is assumed in radial direction and is obtained by Navier-Stokes equation considering viscosity of nanofluid. The displac...
متن کاملNumerical Analysis of the Effect of External Circumferential Elliptical Cracks in Transition Thickness Zone of Pressurized Pipes Using XFEM
The present work investigates the effect of the elliptical three-dimensional (3D) cracks on a pipe with thickness transition, considering internal pressure. Level sets were defined using the extended finite element method (XFEM), the stress intensity factors (SIFs) of 3D cracks were investigated and compared between straight pipes and pipes with thickness transition. The results show that the X...

The harmony search algorithm is applied to the optimum designs of functionally graded (FG)-carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-reinforced pipes conveying fluid which are subjected to a moving load. The structure is modeled by the Reddy cylindrical shell theory, and the motion equations are derived by Hamilton's principle. The dynamic displacement of the system is derived based on the differential quadratur...
